10 advices on raising your child

Save Your Child: A Guide to Raising Godly Kids

In today's world, the specter of drug addiction and social vices looms over our children, seemingly beyond our control. Despite the tireless efforts of agencies, media, and governments, the grip of these destructive influences on post-primary school students, teenagers, and even young adults remains stubbornly tight. It's a sobering reality, and one that prompts us to wonder what might be happening even within the walls of our primary schools.

But fear not, for there is hope. The key to saving our children from this menace lies not solely in the hands of institutions, but rather in the way we raise them. Are we instilling in them values that will shield them from the allure of destructive behaviors? Are we guiding them towards a path of righteousness?

Here, I present ten invaluable pieces of advice on raising children who walk in the footsteps of God:

  1. Intentionality is Key: Raising godly children requires deliberate planning and execution. It seldom happens by accident.
  2. Paint a Picture of Their Future: Envision the adult you want your child to become. For me, it is about molding them into the likeness of Christ.
  3. Define True Discipleship: Teach your children what it truly means to follow Christ – a life surrendered to God's will.
  4. Lead by Example: Children emulate what they see. Live a life that reflects the values you wish to instill in them.
  5. Lay a Foundation of Faith: Teach your children the basics of spiritual growth, such as hearing from God and studying His Word.
  6. Draw Lessons from Scripture: Delve into the stories of the Bible to impart wisdom and guidance.
  7. Seize Teachable Moments: Engage with your children in everyday activities, using those moments as opportunities for spiritual growth.
  8. Focus on Character Development: Identify specific character traits you want your child to embody and discuss them openly and regularly.
  9. Continual Growth: Be open to evolving in your understanding of faith and invite your children to journey alongside you.
  10. Prayer and Trust: Ultimately, entrust your children's spiritual growth to God's grace, recognizing that true godliness is built through His power.

As an individual, I have seen the transformative power of these principles in the lives of others. With the support of a nurturing community, we can raise children who follow after God's heart. Though our roles as primary influencers may evolve, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to guiding the next generation towards a future filled with promise and purpose.

Note: Let us remember that the wisdom found in the Bible is not exclusive to any particular group. Its truths are meant for all humanity, for the recipients of its goodness, whose stories are documented, are humans just like you and me. Together, let us embrace these timeless principles and strive to build a future where our children are safe.
